Technical Details

Slab Sizes

Quartz and Ceramic (Dekton®) worktops are custom made to suit your kitchen. They are cut from large slabs so you're not limited by pre-cut sizes.

  • Ceramic (Dekton®) – approx. 3200mm x 1440mm x 12mm
  • Quartz – approx. 3200mm x 1600mm x 12mm

The maximum length of a piece with a hob or sink cut-out is 2400mm. Any runs over this length will require a joint.

If you are interested in an alternative material or thickness, you can view our extended range here. We have a vast stock of Quartz, Silestone, Caesarstone, Ceramic, Dekton, Granite & Marble. Or contact us here to request a quotation.

Hob/Sink Rail Sizes

The distance between a sink or hob cut-out and the outer edge or joint must be at least 50mm.

Drainer Grooves

Drainer grooves will be no more than 3mm deep and the material will need additional reinforcement. We recommend continuous, level support from underneath in the form of a wooden, ply or MDF substrate. This will distribute the weight evenly and increase the strength of the worktop.

Sinks

We bond stainless steel undermounted sinks to the underside of the worktops. Please leave for at least 24 hours after your worktop installation to allow the adhesive to set. We do not carry out any plumbing work so you will need to arrange for a plumber to connect your sink after the 24-hour period.

For larger or heavier sinks, we recommend using additional support brackets or bars, so the weight of the sink isn't borne by the worktop.

Inset sinks will be offered up to the cut-out to check they fit but won’t be stuck in place in case the plumber needs to access the pipework below.

Overhangs

These are dependant on run sizes & cut-outs but typically an unsupported overhang (i.e. for a breakfast bar) can be:-

  • Ceramic (Dekton®) - max 200mm
  • Quartz – max 150mm

Edge Profiles

All exposed edges will be polished. There are 3 different options available.

Double Bevel Profile Double Pencil Round Downturn/Overlay
Included in sqm price. Chamfer top and bottom. Rounded corners top and bottom.

Used for overlay and to give the appearance of a chunkier worktop (up to 100mm).
Only available for straight runs.

Double Bevel Profile   Double Pencil Round Downturn/Overlay

As standard we will apply a double bevel profile to the outer edges of worktops. This will reduce the likelihood of chipping and eliminate sharp edges.

Joints, Seams, Backsplashes and Upstands

Joints are not invisible. We will make every effort to ensure joints are neat, tidy and as small as possible.

We will leave a perimeter expansion gap of approx. 3mm between the worktop and the wall. Caulk can be used to fill this space; we are unable to offer this service but can recommend upstands as an option to cover them up.

The seam between any backsplash/upstand and worktop will be sealed with a bead of silicone.

Backsplashes and upstands will be 12mm thick. The sizing is bespoke to your kitchen although upstands are traditionally 100mm high. Upstands over 100mm high will be considered a backsplash and priced accordingly.

Reinforcement

12mm worktops require extra reinforcement for lengths/depths over 600mm and areas where drainer grooves have been applied. In addition to the vertical support of the units, we recommend continuous, level support from underneath in the form of a wooden, ply or MDF substrate. This will distribute the weight evenly and increase the strength of the worktop.

Overlay

The main advantage of having overlay fitted on top of your existing worksurface is no reinforcement is necessary. Your previous surface will act as a substrate as long as it is level, solid & secure.

Self-Installation

A tube of silicone will be provided for all self-installation orders.
